I love f'ing with traffic radar. In simple terms POP is a premeasuring "instrument". The cop hits you with POP, gets a reading on your speed, and then IS SUPPOSED to switch on and hit you with the regular old X, K, or Ka. True, POP readings cannot be the basis to issue a ticket. HOWEVER, these asses are writing tickets based solely on POP. Proving that the ticket was written on POP is what you have to prove. The damn judges know it, and the cop definitely knows it. The problem in court is getting the cop to admit he wrote the ticket based on POP - which he is not going to do. And.....if your courts are anything like the rest of the courts in the country, the judge is going to go with the "sworn" officer. The cop is writing as many tickets on it as possible because he has a "standard" (quota) to meet - which in turn affects his promotions, pay raises, etc. You'll know you have POP in your area when you pass a cop that is obviously tracking but not setting off your detector. Oh, and they use the POP in an instant on mode - and as stated above - damn quick, so it's not a continuous transmission. Even if you detect it - it is only on for a nanosecond - if he wants you, he's got you. Only hope is that it was the car in front of you that caught his eye. It's close to laser in its' effectiveness.
